A group of local firefighters and their families distributed 3,500 fliers to Weston residents advertising a public meeting about plans to combine the Weston and Rib Mountain fire departments, but only about 15 people showed up to voice their opinions.

The International Association of Firefighters Local 415 held a public meeting Wednesday night at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Weston to gather public input about the approved South Area Fire and Emergency Response district. The union, led by President Jeremy Kopp, represents about 60 full-time Wausau and Weston firefighters.
