County departments must trim budget requests

Faced with an estimated 1.7 percent decrease in the value of all properties in Door County, and a state-mandated zero-dollar levy increase, the Door County Board Finance Committee this week ordered all county departments to trim their 2014 budget requests.

A Wisconsin Department of Revenue report released last month showed the 2013 equalized value of Door County properties amounted to just under $7 billion - a $120 million drop from their worth last year.

Each department would need to trim 0.5 percent from its budget, the committee decided, to reduce overall spending by nearly $1 million, ...
