Ripon's Sawyer gets conference honor

Ripon College football player Tom Sawyer was named Midwest Conference offensive player of the week Monday.

The senior quarterback from Egg Harbor led the Red Hawks to a 31-24 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran in their season opener last Saturday. Sawyer rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns and completed 12 of 20 passes for 169 yards.

Krause top pro in Cherryland Open

Steve Krause edged Mark Voller by one stroke to win the Cherryland Open golf tournament last weekend at Idlewild Golf Course in Sturgeon Bay.

Krause shot rounds of 74 and 70 and topped the pro division with an overall score of 144. Voller had 145 on rounds of 73 and 72, and Jeff Bisbee placed third at 151 (71-80).

Gary Shastal won the senior pro division with a 152 (75-77).

Nic Kollath topped the amateur open division at 146 (71-75), and Don Hyde won the senior open division at 155.

Turkey Trot run set for Nov. 2

The Door County Turkey Trot is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2, at Sevastopol Town Park in Institute.

The event is open to runners of all ages and includes races of various distances (, 1, 2 and 4 miles).
