In Cajun culture, the best way to thank someone is to cook for him, Max Himmel said as he dished up bowls of gumbo Friday.

Himmel, owner of Himmel's Architectural Doors & Hardware in Baton Rouge, La., took that motto to the next step and drove more than 1,100 miles to cook gumbo for the 575 employees of Marshfield DoorSystems. Himmel's company is a distributor for Marshfield DoorSystems, and he said he wanted to meet and thank the workers who manufacture the products he sells.

He will visit and cook for employees of three other Wisconsin manufacturers during his 29-day cooking tour. Last year, ...
