Have you ever thought about starting your own business? Do you have an idea that you think could be profitable? Would you like to be your own boss? Do you want to learn more about business and entrepreneurship? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, we invite you to join UW-Extension's "Going Solo: Creating a Successful Business" program. Enrolling in Going Solo can be a great first step toward a career as an independent business owner or entrepreneur.

The Going Solo curriculum is both practical and theoretical. Participants will learn: how to identify a business opportunity, how to assess the feasibility of a business venture, how to research target markets, and more. Participants will also meet business development experts from Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation, Small Business Development Center, ADVOCAP, and Moraine Park Technical College who will describe the services they offer locally.

The centerpiece of the program is an interactive simulation in which participants will practice making real business decisions as owners of their own jewelry business. In small groups, participants will make decisions about sales price, marketing, who to market to, insurance, loans, etc. All choices have consequences determined by a computer program using algorithms to predict real market responses. The hands-on learning that takes place in the Going Solo simulation is an invaluable complement to the conceptual component of the program-participants are able to apply their knowledge and make difficult business decisions in a risk-free setting.

Going Solo is for youth (12 years and older) and adults who would like to increase their business and entrepreneurial knowledge. Individuals from any professional background and with any level of prior knowledge on the subject matter are welcome to join our weekly sessions (five in all) starting on Tuesday, September 17th. Sessions will be held at the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation offices located at 116 N. Main St., Fond du Lac, WI (next to Taco John's) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.. There is a $5 fee to enroll in the program and only 20 available spaces in the class.

Come, join us and learn the valuable skills that could help you become a part of the fabric of our vibrant local economy. To enroll, please contact Gloria Kelroy at Fond du Lac County's UW-Extension Office: 929-3173. Gloria.Kelroy@ces.uwex.edu. Information can also be found online at http://fonddulac.uwex.edu/goingsolo2013/.
