Commentary: Where do your city taxes go?

Budget season is upon us. With that, questions begin to arise as to where your property taxes go and how we as a mayor and City Council are using them. In 2013 a $100,000 home would pay $759 for city property taxes. Approximately 30 to 35 percent of the property tax bill you receive goes to fund your city government. The rest of the property tax bill you receive includes tax payments to Manitowoc County, Manitowoc Public School District, Lakeshore Technical College and the State of Wisconsin.
