Ripon College to present 'The Liar'

"The Liar," a comic romp through Paris in 1643, will open the Ripon College theatre department season Oct. 2 through 5. David Ives, one of America's funniest playwrights, has created this "translaptation" from the classic comedy by Pierre Corneille.

A "translaptation" is halfway between a translation and an adaptation. Like a musical remix, it gives new life to a classic. The play follows an endearing hero with one major flaw: he cannot tell the truth. This is not from malice; it's just that he loves to create, to add on to his ideas.
