Petri, Duffy join push for Fort Hood victims benefits

Reps. Tom Petri and Sean Duffy are joining an effort on Capitol Hill to obtain more benefits for Fort Hood victims and their families by labeling the shooting an act of terror instead of workplace violence.

A bill slated for introduction Tuesday - and co-sponsored by Petri and Duffy - grants victims and their families the same benefits as members of the Armed Forces killed or wounded in combat, including life insurance, tax breaks and combat-related injury rehabilitation pay.

The Honoring the Fort Hood Heroes Act also would require the Pentagon to award Purple Hearts to members of the ...
