Third Avenue Playhouse wraps up the summer/fall season of its Stage Door Theatre Company with a monthlong run of "The 39 Steps," opening Sept. 18 in the Studio Theatre at TAP.

The award-winning show is based on suspense master Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1935 movie of the same name (and that was based on a John Buchan novel published in 1915), but this 2005 adaptation by Patrick Barlow takes Hitchcock in a different direction. It's a Monty Python-ish, madcap romp with four actors - in this case, Ryan Patrick Shaw, Kay Allmand, Amy Ensign and Ryan Schabach, directed by James Valcq - playing about ...
