Fall colors slowly emerge; peak expected in October

Fall colors have begun taunting north central Wisconsin residents with a smattering of oranges, yellows and reds across the woodlands. Before you know it, landscapes across the region will be awash in color.

Colors in Eagle River, for example, were at 5 percent on Tuesday , and that community is expected to see the peak in colors during the first week of October, according to the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. Here's where other communities fare on the Department of Tourism's color report:

Antigo: 10 percent color as of Sept. 9; expected peak is second week of October.

Clark County: 10 percent color as of Sept. 12; expected peak is first week of October.

Forest County: 10 percent color as of Monday ; expected peak is first week of October.

Ladysmith: 10 percent color as of Sunday ; expected peak is first week of October.

Manitowish Waters: 5 percent color as of Tuesday ; expected peak is first week of October.

Minoqua: 5 percent color as of Monday ; expected peak is first week of October.

Rhinelander: 5 percent color as of Monday ; expected peak is first week of October.

Wausau: 10 percent color as of Friday ; expected peak is second week of October.
