Fundraiser for Grand theater updates, maintenance kicks off (video added)

Majority of money already raised through foundation, business support

A public fundraising effort that aims to collect enough cash to help preserve The Grand theater and enhance its audience experience kicked off Thursday.

Leaders of the Performing Arts Foundation, the nonprofit organization that manages the historic downtown building and the adjacent buildings that make up ArtsBlock, hope to raise about $600,000 in the capital campaign. PAF leaders already have raised about $2.4 million from individuals, businesses and foundations through a private, one-on-one campaign, said Jim O'Connell, PAF executive director.
