Horicon Marsh center will get an upgrade

State OKs $3.39 million remodeling of visitors building

A $3.39 million renovation of the Horicon Marsh International Education Center should increase visitor appreciation of the 30,000-acre wetlands and encourage them to experience it, a Department of Natural Resources official said.

"We understand that most people will only see the marsh from a car window, our (center) windows or the trails. We want to show them what the interior looks like and the center serves as a gateway for people to go out there and really see the marsh," said Bret Owsley, the DNR's Horicon area wildlife manager.

The marsh has been referred to as Wisconsin's Everglades ...
