Green Bay Packers inside linebacker Robert Francois was fined $10,000 by the NFL for striking an opponent late on the second-half kickoff of Sunday’s 38-20 win over Washington.

Francois picked up an unnecessary roughness flag on the play when he appeared to dive head-first near the head of Washington kick returner Chris Thompson, who already had been shoestring-tackled by Jarrett Boykin.

The fine is a little more than a quarter of Francois’ $37,058.82 game check as part of his $630,000 base salary for the 2013 season.

An NFL spokesperson also confirmed Washington safety Brandon Meriweather was fined $42,000 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Packers running back Eddie Lacy in the first quarter. USA Today reported Wednesday he’s appealing the fine.

Washington long snapper Nick Sundberg was fined $7,875 for his late block in the back of Packers safety M.D. Jennings in punt coverage in the second quarter.

Washington center Will Montgomery was fined $10,000 for an illegal peel-back block on Packers defensive lineman B.J. Raji in the third quarter.
