Al Tessmann said he is excited to finally retire the massive American flag he discovered in a Plover dump on Memorial Day. He has worked with the Plover VFW Post 10262 and the Plover American Legion Post 543 to organize a flag retirement ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Al Tessmann wasn't prepared for what awaited him when he found an enormous American flag in a local dump on Memorial Day and then retrieved it so it could be disposed of properly.

He expected a few central Wisconsin veterans and older folks to take an interest in the flag and the story behind it. But he had no idea that dragging the relic from the dump would bring on a groundswell of patriotism in the community - patriotism that will be on full display Saturday when the flag he found and others formally will be retired.
