Authorities are looking for the person or persons who destroyed hundreds of young cherry trees this week near Ellison Bay.

Seaquist Orchards announced Friday it is offering $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person who destroyed 639 cherry trees on 25 acres, west of Clay Bay Pottery.

According to the announcement, the widespread damage occurred between 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 5 p.m. Thursday. It appears to have been done with hand pruning loppers; the trees were cut off about 18 inches above ground.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Door County Sheriff’s Department at (920) 746-2400 or James Seaquist (920) 854-4491.
