Things could change if there's a big rain event soon but for the time being, the first scheduled chinook salmon harvest at Strawberry Creek is set for Sept. 30.

Workers at the DNR's No. 1 salmon egg-taking facility are gearing up for what could be a solid run of fish even after a year of sub-par catches on Lake Michigan.

Early indications are that the 2013 year class of alewives was not a good one, and that could be part of what is fueling better fishing in the past month than we've had all summer. ...
