It's Your Call: Gun carriers lack sense

3:59 PM, Sep. 20, 2013  |  Comments

When people start openly carrying weapons on the streets of Appleton, it's time to seriously consider that maybe common sense has been lost in this country. The Second Amendment was written for a different time. The right to bear arms was meant to support a government that could not afford a standing army and relied on a militia. Not only do we have a standing army but we also have a militia, the National Guard, which is state, not federal. We do not need people strolling down College Avenue with assault rifles for self-defense. What were they guarding themselves from, some dangerous vegetables? They may claim they know how to handle the weapons, but how about just leaving them at home and let the people who do that for a living take care of those things?
