St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer has designated the fifth Sunday of the month as a day to volunteer. Members will not have a worship service that day but instead volunteer at local programs that need help. Dates available are Sept. 29, Dec. 29, March 30, June 29, Aug. 31 and Nov. 30, 2014.

Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital invites you to share your time and talents for a few hours each week to work in a variety of service areas. Training is provided for all positions. Volunteer applications are available by mail or online at http://ministryhealth.org/SJH/VolunteerOpportunities.nws. Homeless shelter: Volunteers are needed to help build the new St. Vincent de Paul Homeless Shelter on the corner of Vine and Depot streets. Work days are from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Lunch will be served. Please bring a hammer. You must be at least 18 or accompanied by a parent.
