A drug treatment court may be on the horizon in Manitowoc County. Professionals in the criminal justice/court system and interested citizens in Manitowoc County who want to see a reduction in crimes related to drug and alcohol abuse and mental illness are working together to make this happen.

A Criminal Justice Coordinating Council is now being formed and an application for a drug treatment court will be submitted to the Office of Justice Assistance. The state Legislature and governor have been supportive of these reforms, increasing the budget from $1 million to $2.5 million to encourage ...
