Amy Powers is looking to start a community kitchen when she opens The Village Hive Bakery & Local Foods Collective in early October at 127 N. Main St. The site previously was home to the New Village Bakery, which Powers ran along with baker David Ryle, who left the business at the end of April.

The business offers commercial kitchen space and equipment for rent to people looking to make food in large batches. Powers said there also is retail space at the front of the building for her tenants, and she can help market their products to other retail businesses in the area.
