Wausau assault suspect sentenced on gun charges

A 31-year-old Wausau man accused of sexually abusing a woman and holding her hostage will spend five years in prison on unrelated firearms charges after being sentenced in federal court.

Julian Alvarez was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. Western District Court in Madison on a federal charge of unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon, Assistant U.S. Attorney David John Reinhard said.

U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb issued the sentence that Alvarez will begin serving immediately in a federal prison. Authorities did not say in which prison Alvarez will serve his time. ...
