Ever since Richard Polansky began working at his father's service station in sixth grade, his focus was on serving the Wisconsin Rapids community, those who knew him said.

Fast forward six decades, and Polansky would become the one individual whose vision for a senior center led to a nationally recognized project to transform a former shopping center into a community asset.

Richard "Dick" Polansky, 81, was born April 8, 1932, to Carl and Ella (Schroeder) Polansky in Wisconsin Rapids, according to his obituary. He died Friday after a long bout with cancer. He moved to Appleton in 2008. ...
