Edgewood Orchard Galleries plans to celebrate the opening of the final show of its 2013 season with a reception from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 28. The exhibit includes a group show titled "Gifts from the Heart" in the gallery's restored fruit barn and an individual show by painter Sally Berner in "The Courtyard Gallery."

Berner will put on a painting demonstration from 2 to 4 p.m. in the gallery courtyard during the reception. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served, and the public is welcome.

Gallery owners Nell and J.R. Jarosh said they are excited to share Berner's new body of work with visitors.

"Its Sally's first feature show at Edgewood, and we love the pieces she has created." J.R. said.

Berner said she has been an active oil painter for more than 25 years, creating realistic oil paintings that are inspired by her love for nature and all the creatures that share our planet

"I love exploring the back roads of Door County in search of farms and animals while enjoying the peaceful tranquility and amazing variety of terrain the county has to offer," she said. No matter what the subject, she said, "it is the light that makes an ordinary subject extraordinary and creates that special magic that compels me to try to capture it on canvas."

Edgewood Orchard Galleries' 15th annual "Gifts from the Heart" show will be exhibited on both levels of the gallery barn and includes newly delivered pieces of artwork from many of Edgewood's accomplished artists. These pieces include smaller paintings, mirrors, a new selection of glass snowmen, holiday ornaments, jewelry, clay pieces and holiday stationery items that were not available earlier in the gallery season.

Also still available for gift-giving is the Edgewood Orchard cookbook, "An Artist's Food for the Soul." Cookbook sales have now raised more than $120,000 for not-for-profit programs designed to benefit children. The cookbook is full of favorite recipes, images of beautiful artwork, and a delightful collection of stories.

Edgewood Orchard Galleries is located at 4140 Peninsula Players Road, one block east of Wisconsin 42, between Egg Harbor and Fish Creek. The current exhibit will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day until the gallery closes for the season on Nov. 3.
