Profits from local firefighters' Octoberfest chili booth today will help kick off a campaign to get winter coats for Appleton children.

The Appleton Firefighters Association is launching its Operation Warm campaign to provide needy children with warm coats in partnership with the Firefighters Coats for Kids Foundation.

Nationwide, firefighters have helped Operation Warm clothe more than 23,000 children, and this year, Appleton firefighters hope raise $15,000 to help more than 450 children. The firefighters will deliver the new coats in person.

To make an online donation, visit www.operationwarm.com/Appleton. Checks can be dropped off at Appleton Fire Station 1, 700 N. Drew St.
