Blowing out birthday candles this month was anything but routine for a Fond du Lac teenager.

Christopher Johnson turned 18 years old on Saturday, Sept. 14 - a day he almost didn't get to celebrate.

On a mid-April morning that dawned like any other, Christopher's mother, Kimberly Krieser, dropped him off at Fond du Lac High School, saying her usual "Love you. See you later." ...
