State regulators have given the go-ahead to a $250 million wind farm in St. Croix County after initially rejecting the project.

The state Public Service Commission approved the Highland Wind Farm on a 2-1 vote Thursday. Earlier this year, regulators rejected Emerging Energies' proposal because the developer failed to show the project complied with state rules for noise by the wind turbines.

Emerging Energies then submitted a plan to curtail some of the turbines at night.

The Highland Wind Farm project includes 44 wind turbines in the towns of Forest and Cylon, nearly 60 miles northwest of Eau Claire.
