For close to 20 years, people have gathered to walk and raise money for local food pantries.

With the route along Highway 13, there was always the possibility of an accident. This year brings a new twist to the walk. The Care Walk will take place at 1 p.m. Oct. 6 Sunday in Spencer.

Whereas in the past, people walked close to five miles on Highway 13, this year, they will walk about two miles.

The route will snake its way through the village, starting at the gazebo in the village park located on Park Street. The walk will eventually bring walkers back to the gazebo.

Everybody will start together, but after that, your pace is entirely up to you. You can take the fast pace or you can enjoy the fresh air and company with a slow leisurely walk.

Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to get pledges before the walk. People can pledge an amount per mile or they can give a flat donation.

The purpose of the Care Walk is to raise money to help support the food pantry at Christ the King Catholic Church. Upon returning to the gazebo, walkers will be treated to refreshments. St. John's Lutheran Church will be providing drinks. Cheese is being donated by Mullins Cheese. Christ the King will provide the crackers and sausage.

If you are interested in participating, or with questions, call St. John's Church at 715-659-5158 or Dennis and Mary Frank at 715-659-2442.
