Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has been fined a total of $31,000 by the NFL for two separate incidents in Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.
Burfict must pay $21,000 for a personal foul penalty against Packers receiver James Jones, according to a league spokesman, for unnecessarily striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area.
Burfict was hit with an additional $10,000 fine for a below-the-belt shot on Packers tight end Ryan Taylor.
Bengals safety George Iloka was fined $15,000 for his first-quarter hit in which Packers tight end Jermichael Finley sustained a concussion. Iloka was not penalized on the play, but the NFL spokesman said the hit was considered striking a defenseless player.
Taylor was not fined for the personal foul penalty he incurred when he retaliated against Burfict.
Packers cornerback Tramon Williams was not fined for an unnecessary roughness penalty, and neither was linebacker Nick Perry for a late-hit penalty.
Bengals safety Reggie Nelson wasn’t fined for his roughing-the-passer penalty against Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and defensive end Michael Johnson didn’t get a fine for a hit on Rodgers’ knee that wasn’t penalized.
