The Door County Board was asked by one its members Thursday to "make a pre-emptive strike" to ensure visitors to the peninsula from Western Wisconsin and Minnesota know how to get through Green Bay, after this week's closing of the Interstate 43 bridge across the Fox River.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation ordered the bridge closed after an estimated 400-foot stretch of the roadway dropped, creating a visible sag. The DOT has initiated an investigation of the cause of the apparent failure of a support pier on the eastern edge of the 33-year-old bridge.
