U.S. Army Pfc. Christopher Alexander takes time on Sept. 10 to clean his weapon at Nangalam Base. The Fond du Lac native serves as a gunner, 3rd Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment. Alexander said he joined the Army for the camaraderie. Third Squadron is at Nangalam to support their Afghan counterparts in securing a specific route to the Chapa Dara District Center. The squadron is part of 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division based out of Fort Polk, La.
