October 6-12 is Mental Illness Awareness Week. NAMI Fond du Lac has their events planned for the month of October. Event include:
? Wednesday, Oct. 2 - In Our Own Voice at 6:30 p.m. at the Fond du Lac Public Library. The presentation will be in the Eugene G. McLane meeting room and consists of two trained consumer speakers who will share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery.
? Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 5 & 6 - Forest Mall Community Bazaar. NAMI Fond du Lac will have a booth there during mall hours. Items for sale will include buttons, zipper pulls, vases, greeting cards, and baked items.
? Monday, Oct. 7 - Culvers Fundraiser. Ten percent of proceeds taken in at Culver's, 969 E. Johnson St., from 5 to 7 p.m. will be given to NAMI Fond du Lac. This entails drive-through orders, in-house orders, and cake purchases. Stop by and support NAMI Fond du Lac.
? Wednesday, Oct. 16 - Fire Safety Training at 1:15 p.m. A member of the FDL Fire Department will cover basic fire safety issues including - escaping from an upstairs area, kitchen fires, no no's in the house, etc.
? Thursday, Oct. 17 - Family Support Group at 6:30 p.m. This gathering is offered monthly by NAMI affiliates, free of charge, in confidential and safe settings at Friendship Corner and is run by volunteer facilitators who are also family members living with mental health challenges in their lives. Group discussion and interaction will be encouraged.
