Manitowoc mayor proposes 1.99 percent tax increase

Mayor Justin Nickels unveiled his proposed Executive 2014 Budget for the city and it would increase the assessed tax rate by 1.99 percent.

The owner of a home assessed at $100,000 would see a $15 annual increase in his city taxes to $774 from $759. Local property tax bills also include assessments from the county, state, school district and technical college.

"A 1.99 percent increase was proposed as part of a plan during the 2013 budget deliberations to alleviate high debt repayments without having to cut even further from the general fund," Nickels told the City Council Monday evening. ...
