The Democrat-controlled Senate and Republican-controlled House continued volleying government spending bills back and forth Monday as the deadline for a government shutdown approached.

The Senate took up a House bill and struck a provision that would have delayed Obamacare implementation by a year and then sent the bill back to the House. House Republicans then decided to put in a provision delaying a requirement in the health care law that individuals buy insurance or face penalties and then sent it back to the Senate.
