Emily Jaeger, a Winnebago Lutheran Academy junior and also a Youth Tobacco Prevention board member for the state of Wisconsin, received the "Youth Leader of the Year" award from the 5 Counties for Tobacco-Free Living Coalition at their annual Legislative Breakfast.
Jaeger received the award for promoting and supporting youth tobacco prevention activities in her school and in the community. She commented, "I was really surprised and honored to receive this award. My goal is to get the message out to as many youth as possible - that tobacco products are both very addictive and very harmful, even the ones that are available in candy flavors.
"I want my peers to know that they do have a choice. I don't force them to do anything. I hope that they make the informed decision to not use tobacco because this could come back to hurt them and their loved ones. I don't want my peers or their family members to experience the same kind of pain that I have endured from watching someone that I loved so much, die from tobacco use."
