Salem's Apple Harvest Festival set Oct. 12

Follow the aroma of apple pies baking to the 15th annual Apple Harvest Festival at Salem United Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

Come into the Apple Cellar and discover yummy jams and jellies, Apple Pie-in-a-Jar, relishes, pickles, a variety of baked goods, travel pillows, trick or treat bags, various craft items, and mums.

This is your first opportunity to get our newly published cookbook - A Taste of Salem. It contains hundreds of recipes that will make your mouth water. Familiar comfort foods, light salads, gluten-free dishes and delicious desserts fill the pages. You will also find a large selection of recipes that feature apples as an ingredient. With so many great recipes you will use it again and again.

For the second year, we will have cards and textiles from Russia. Proceed of their sale go to support our sister church - the Saratov United Methodist Church in Saratov, Russia. The pastor of the Saratov church designs the pictures using only scissors, glue, old magazines and cardboard. The collages are then turned into prints, Christmas cards, and note cards. The ladies of their church have made the textile products: towels, table runners, and apron sets.

Bid in the Silent Auction. There are many beautiful baskets and items including tools, Brewer bag game, Hershey, Duck Dynasty, wooden stools, shawls with jewelry, Red Bird Mission Crafts, bird houses, jams and jellies, baby, golf, children's storytime, kitty, Packers, airplane ride, and many more.

Stop at Apple Jack's Café and enjoy a piece of apple pie, a Gillieburger, coffee or apple cider.

There will be grab bags for the kids and activities for the children who attend. Salem youth will prepare caramel apples for you - in a dish, on a stick, with peanuts or sprinkles.

Individually made apple pies are prepared in the church kitchen by members of the church - women and men, husbands and wives, mothers and daughters, and youth. Pies are available baked or frozen-unbaked in twp sizes: 9-inch for $12, and small for $5. They are also available sugar-free.

Advance orders for early pickup are being taken at the church office 921-8605 through Oct. 7. Order blanks and flyers are available at www.salemchurch.com

The church is handicap-accessible. Proceeds support the mission/ministry of Salem and Saratov United Methodist Church.
