Improving health, reducing medical costs program goals

While the nation struggles with medical bills, the city of Manitowoc expects to spend about $4.3 million this year on health care expenses of municipal employees.

More than 80 percent of the money will come from local property taxpayers as city employees pay no more than 12.5 percent of individual or family health insurance premiums into the city's self-funded plan.

The city's Wellness Steering Team members say they want to help encourage and motivate their public sector co-workers to lead healthier lives. ...
