The Green Bay Packers haven't had their bye as early as Week 4 since 1999, when they lost three straight games near the end of the year and missed the playoffs in Ray Rhodes' only season as head coach.

Green Bay's 8-8 record was reflective of a three-game winning streak sandwiched between two three-game losing skids. It was the first time the Packers had missed the playoffs in six seasons.

While the blame for that season was mostly pointed at a leaky defense down the stretch, the toll of playing 13 straight weeks can't be ignored. ...
