Island to host its first literary festival

One could say there will be writers, writers everywhere and lots of drops of ink at the inaugural Washington Island Literary Festival, taking place Oct. 4-6 and based at the Trueblood Performing Arts Center.

This is the first festival of its kind held on the Island, but Elizabeth Wallman, chairwoman of the festival committee and organizer of the event for the Trueblood, said it really wasn't hard to put together.

"Normally, when you ask people to be on a committee, you get a lot of no's," Wallman said, "but everyone said yes immediately. Washington Island has a history with writers in the sense ...
