All signs suggest that Clay Matthews' hamstring injury isn't as severe as the one that sidelined him for five weeks last season.

That's encouraging news for a Green Bay Packers defense that early this season has given up big yards in the passing game and still is looking for rushers to complement Matthews and put consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Packers were saying Matthews might be available Sunday against the Detroit Lions, only two weeks after he sustained what's been a chronic injury dating to his rookie season. ...
