City to consider charging landlords for licenses

Proposal also would require rental property inspections every three years

City leaders are preparing a landlord licensing proposal in the hopes of cleaning up rental properties - a common source of blight in the city. But local landlords aren't convinced the program would achieve that goal.

The draft proposal would require landlords to pay $30 per year per single-family home they own, $60 for every duplex and $30 for every building with three or more units, plus $15 per unit. The license would expire every year and there would be a $100 late fee for an expired application.
