Long before the Super Bowl rings or 20-year NFL career, Matt Stover's first claim to fame was being a regional punt, pass and kick champion out of Dallas.
Funny as it may seem now, back then it was quite an accomplishment for an 11-year-old with his whole life in front of him. It opened doors he never could have imagined, including the chance to meet then-Cowboys kicker Rafael Septien.
In an age when kicking coaches were hard to come by, Stover asked if he could work with Septien sometime. After all, the Cowboys' training facility was only 3 miles from his family home. ...
