Cornerback Casey Hayward and outside linebacker Clay Matthews were in pads and took part in the Green Bay Packers' practice on Thursday morning.
Both players are coming off hamstring injuries.
Hayward’s participation was a surprise because on Wednesday coach Mike McCarthy listed him as out for this week. It’s unclear whether Hayward’s return means he has a chance of playing this week against Detroit or is just a way of easing him back into football after he’s missed all but four practices and every game since training camp started.
Matthews’ chances of playing Sunday against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field hinge on how much he can do Thursday and then how his hamstring feels on Friday.
Two players didn’t practice: running back James Starks (knee) and center/guard Greg Van Roten (foot). McCarthy has declared both out for Sunday's game.
