A person who gets off an airplane anywhere in the United States will come across a Wausau Tile product within 15 minutes of hitting the ground, company founder Edward J. Creske proudly liked to proclaim.

Creske, 86, died unexpectedly Wednesday at his vacation home in Palm Springs, Calif. The Mosinee-area native started Wausau Tile in 1953 in a two-car garage. Today, Wausau Tile is a global leader in the precast industry, making everything from brick pavers and floor tiles to garbage cans and decorative fixtures used by some of the biggest companies in the world.
