Two new shops in the works, My Retreat Design and Items of Interest, will focus on home decor, gifts and furniture.

• The face behind My Retreat Design, a new furniture and home decor store, is familiar. Brenda Krause was founder of Cottage Chic Home Furnishings in 2002, and she ran that store until 2008.

Her new store will open this next week at 690 N. Westhill Blvd. in Grand Chute, sharing a building with Wildbird & Backyard and Breadsmith.

“We won’t be concentrating on the cottage-y stuff. Now it’s going to be a little bit more sophisticated,” she said.

Her furniture selection ranges from industrial and contemporary to traditional, plus she’ll offer custom and interior design services, gifts and affordable home decor items.

Info: myretreatdesign.com or 920-955-3726. Open seven days a week.

• Items of Interest is the gift shop opening in about a month in the former Avenue Art spot in downtown Appleton’s City Center Plaza.

The new store will be run by the D’Amico family — mom Patti and her daughter Angela and son Joey.

“We sell trendy, fresh and fun gifts for all ages including toys, games, jewelry and home accents,” said Patti D’Amico.

(Note that Avenue Art left that downtown storefront when it moved west on College Avenue.)
