Appleton East Tackles Cancer event raises $18,500

Students, community come together through pledges, relay event

Normally, a crosstown rivalry football game leaves one team disappointed with the outcome.

That wasn't the case following the Sept. 27 matchup between Appleton East and Appleton West, when players and fans from both teams participated in a three-hour relay to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

As part of the second annual East Tackles Cancer event, students collected pledges for the relay, held a raffle and sold T-shirts, tickets for a dunk tank and luminaries. The event is a joint effort between the East Key Club and the football team. ...
