Menasha property tax forgiveness only first step for Sikh Temple of the Fox Valley

Common Council members hoping to erase the debt of a Menasha temple earned a small victory Monday night, but religious leaders quickly realized the issue extends beyond the city's authority.

Leaders of the Sikh Temple of the Fox Valley, 1304 Midway Road, asked the Menasha Common Council to forgive $11,500 in unpaid property taxes and accrued interest from 2011, asserting the tax was unmerited because the temple is a tax-exempt religious organization.
