Port of Green Bay just off 2012 pace

The port of Green Bay handled 194,774 tons of cargo in September, bringing the year-to-date total to 1.35 million tons.

The year-to-date total is 1 percent off last year's pace at the same point of the season when the total was 1.36 million tons, according to a monthly report from the Brown County Port & Resource Recovery Department.

The port handled a total of 1.9 million tons of cargo in 2012, an 11 percent increase from 2011.

The shipping season runs through December.
