The Green Bay Packers promoted cornerback James Nixon to the 53-man roster from the practice squad after placing inside linebacker Robert Francois on the injured reserve list, the team announced today.
Francois tore his Achilles tendon in Sunday’s 22-9 victory over the Detroit Lions after replacing an injured Brad Jones (hamstring) in the lineup.
Nixon is a 6-foot, 186-pound rookie from California University (Pa.), who has been on the practice squad for all four games this season.
He also was a practice squad member for the final 14 regular-season and two playoff games last season. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Arizona Cardinals in May 2012.
