Review: Guest pianist shines in Fox Valley Symphony opener

Saturday evening's concert by the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra marked the beginning of its 47th season. Featuring a festive Italian theme, three spirited compositions were programmed, much to the audience's delight.

Hector Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture was the concert opener. The overture is based on music of his opera Benvenuto Cellini.

A bright, invigorating opening suddenly gives way to a slow, lyrical section with features an extended English horn solo, beautifully played by Leslie Outland Michelic. ...
