Officials urge people to get help with utility bills before emergency occurs

State and local officials are urging people with disconnected heat to make arrangements before they get into a crisis situation.

The heating disconnection moratorium in Wisconsin prohibits utilities in Wisconsin from disconnecting customers from Nov. 1 through April 15 for being behind on bills. However, it does not require utility companies from reconnecting services that they disconnected prior to the start of the moratorium, according to a news release from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.
